A brief

Introduction

Forty years ago in the Westernmost mainland Europe, Cabo da Roca, grandfather António Gonçalves Gomes and his wife Grandma IIda set up a small grocery store that rapidly fashioned into a tavern later on transforming into a restaurant that now Refúgio.

After the restaurant, Antonio and his son Carlos and the daughter Sonia Gomes, built up a country hotel business also banqueting, hosting and planning weddings. With these expertise in place, this family has become vast and steadfast in Event Planning and Hospitality.

Three generations after, Carlos, his wife Cidália Gomes together with their children Frederico and Carolina with the support of the still student Madalena, run the establishment and continue to be committed to offering their clientele the most unforgettable gratifying Portuguese gastronomic experience. Innovative and distinctive cuisines evoke artistry and craftsmanship. Refugio da Roca remains a treasured architectural landmark among the restaurants in Sintra.

Fresh grilled fish from the Portuguese waters, sopa Rica do Mar, squid Heads salted in secret sauce, meat and squid skewers on a bay stick are just some of the exquisite dishes that bring together food lovers from all over the globe to this modest village.
